SLA-MN Annual Holiday Gathering (virtual)

  SLA-MN is hosting their annual holiday gathering on December 4, 2020, from 4-5:00pm. There will be a virtual escape room via small breakout groups! This will be a good opportunity to network with local SLA members and learn how to adapt a Google form for your own escape room with family or friends. This event is free, though registration is required .  

Fall 2020 Elections

The SLA Student Group is now accepting nominations for the Chair of Finance and Chair of Communications positions! If you are interested in participating in the Student Group leadership next year, please email us at stkatesla@gmail.com by November 25th. Officer positions for SLA are fairly fluid from year to year. As an SLA co-chair, you'll work with the other leaders to assign tasks, determine expectations, and set goals together.   Currently, the roles are defined as follows: Chair of Communications Reminder emails Blog Twitter posts Create flyers and marketing Represent SLA at orientation Chair of Finances Provide finance updates Make the agenda Take minutes Handle money Reimbursements Pizza coordinator! (when we can meet in person...)  

Discussion with the East Side Freedom Library & Hmong Archives

  On November 16th, St. Kate's SLA is hosting a virtual discussion with Peter Rachleff, the co-executive director of the East Side Freedom Library, and Marlin Heise, the curator of the Hmong Archives (housed at ESFL).  This will be an opportunity to talk with Peter and Marlin about the work they do to preserve labor, immigration, African and Asian American social movements and histories, and what they have done to make the ESFL building a gathering space for those communities.  Date: November 16, 2020 Time: 5:00pm central Meeting Link For more information, email us at stkatesla@gmail.com

Ask Me Anything Panel

  On October 4th at 7pm, SLA is hosting an informal panel with members of SLA MN. This is your chance to ask questions about special libraries as a career path, SLA as a professional organization, and really anything related to special libraries. No question is too weird! SLA Dream Jobs Panel

  On August 27th, SLA's Students and New Professionals Advisory Council (SNPAC) has organized a FREE panel with SLA members in a variety of roles at different types of organization. SLA-MN Book Discussion - A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota

COVID-19 Updates

Following the announcement from St. Catherine that all classes will be moving online for the remainder of the semester, SLA will be working to do the same . We will still be holding our April 8th meeting at 5:15 online . More details will be coming via email. Don't forget, we are taking election nominations for our event chair! Send us an email or join the meeting to nominate someone. Our hope is to hold our scheduled April 6th Professionals Panel in some online form, possibly at a later date than previously scheduled. We are working with our panelists to find the best solution and will let you know as soon as we can. There is still time to submit essays for the Travel Stipend ! DEADLINE MARCH 25th! SLA has not yet cancelled its annual meeting and so we are still moving forward with travel stipend funding. Registration is open for the SLA Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina June 6-9 and current St. Kate MLIS students are invited to apply for the $1,000 Special Libraries Association Student Travel Stipend! Mayo Clinic Libraries Tour

Date: Saturday, March 7th Time: 1pm Location: Rochester, MN Follow this link to RSVP by Sunday, March 1st if you would like to attend. We will be viewing 3-4 of the libraries at the Mayo Clinic. There is a cap of 10 people. Once we reach that limit, we'll add names to a waiting list. We will have carpooling available for those with transportation needs. If you are willing to carpool or be a driver, please let us know when you RSVP. SLA-MN Winter Mixer

Join colleagues, friends, and new acquaintances at the SLA-MN Winter Mixer on Thursday, January 30th.     7-9 pm at Urban Forage Winery & Cider House . No RSVP Required! Enjoy Urban Forage's wide menu of cider, mead and wine from locally sourced fruit, flowers and honey. Snacks provided by SLA-MN. The trivia theme for the evening is Disney movies from 1989-1999. Bring a friend! Non-members are welcome! Parking/Transit : Urban Forage is located at 3016 E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55406 on the #21 bus line. There is free street parking.
