Historical Society Library Tour - New Date!

The date has been changed for this event - to Tuesday, October 14. RSVP now!

Join the St. Kate's SLA student group and CALCO for a unique tour of the Minnesota Historical Society Library. Librarian Brigid Shields will introduce us to the library's collections, including behind-the-scenes areas not open to the public. In preparation for the 2008 elections, we'll hear about what the library holds on well-known Minnesota political personalities. Attendees will have the opportunity to see museum exhibits after the tour.

What: Tour of the Minnesota Historical Society Library.
Where: Minnesota History Center, 345 W. Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102-1906 (meet in the Fraternal Congress Classroom, in the library on the 2nd floor)
When: Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Tour 6:00pm-7:15pm, networking and time to visit museum exhibits until 8:00pm.

See http://events.mnhs.org/calendar/hours.cfm?VenueID=1&bhcp=1 for directions and parking information.

RSVP Info:
RSVP by sending an email to stkatesla@gmail.com. All RSVPs should include your name and if you are a MLIS student or what company or library you are with.

If you would like admission to the museum after the tour, please send an RSVP with the number of admissions you will need. Admission includes regular exhibits only. If you are only attending the tour, please RSVP so that we can have enough handouts and nametags for everyone. Feel free to come at the last minute without RSVPing though!

CALCO
CALCO, the Capitol Area Library Consortium, is a group of state government libraries serving state employees and the public. We thank them for co-sponsoring this event! Students interested in government libraries should take this opportunity to meet CALCO librarians and learn about what they do! More information about CALCO is at http://www.libraries.state.mn.us/ .

DO NOT MISS this tour! I worked for a *very* short time at the History Center while in library school (CSC) and what goes on behind the scenes at MHS is just amazing. You'll all want to be archivists after this. Catalogers take note of the archivist records. Very, very cool place. ~Karla
