American Craft Council Library Tour

  Our tour of the American Craft Council Library is on November 15th at 5:30pm! There is a cap of 8 people, so please RSVP to attend.  Masks will be required and all attendees will need to give information for contact tracing.

Fall Meetings

  Welcome to a new semester!  Our first meeting of the fall is Thursday, September 9th at 5:15! We're going to start the semester by trying a hybrid in-person/online meeting. You're welcome to join us in-person in CDC 287 (we'll have candy!) or online via Google Meet. Send us an email (stkatesla@gmail.com) if you'd like to be on our listserv. We regularly send out links to meetings, news about upcoming SLA events, professional development, and job opportunities.

  We miss our normal meeting snacks! So this semester, in lieu of in-person meetings, if you attend 2 of our monthly meetings or 1 monthly meeting + another SLA event, we'll put together a little package of goodies and send it to you in May!

  Welcome to a new semester! Our first meeting is February 11th at 5:00 via Google Meet. We'll discuss our plans for the semester - events & professional development opportunities - and get to know one another! As a fun extra this semester, if you join us for 2 meetings or a meeting + an event, we'll send you a little packages of goodies in May 🙂 All SLA meetings this semester are on the 2nd Thursday of the month - you can add our meetings to your school google calendar with this link .

SLA-MN Annual Holiday Gathering (virtual)

  SLA-MN is hosting their annual holiday gathering on December 4, 2020, from 4-5:00pm. There will be a virtual escape room via small breakout groups! This will be a good opportunity to network with local SLA members and learn how to adapt a Google form for your own escape room with family or friends. This event is free, though registration is required .  

Discussion with the East Side Freedom Library & Hmong Archives

  On November 16th, St. Kate's SLA is hosting a virtual discussion with Peter Rachleff, the co-executive director of the East Side Freedom Library, and Marlin Heise, the curator of the Hmong Archives (housed at ESFL).  This will be an opportunity to talk with Peter and Marlin about the work they do to preserve labor, immigration, African and Asian American social movements and histories, and what they have done to make the ESFL building a gathering space for those communities.  Date: November 16, 2020 Time: 5:00pm central Meeting Link For more information, email us at stkatesla@gmail.com

  On October 4th at 7pm, SLA is hosting an informal panel with members of SLA MN. This is your chance to ask questions about special libraries as a career path, SLA as a professional organization, and really anything related to special libraries. No question is too weird! SLA Dream Jobs Panel

  On August 27th, SLA's Students and New Professionals Advisory Council (SNPAC) has organized a FREE panel with SLA members in a variety of roles at different types of organization. COVID-19 Updates

Following the announcement from St. Catherine that all classes will be moving online for the remainder of the semester, SLA will be working to do the same . We will still be holding our April 8th meeting at 5:15 online . More details will be coming via email. Don't forget, we are taking election nominations for our event chair! Send us an email or join the meeting to nominate someone. Our hope is to hold our scheduled April 6th Professionals Panel in some online form, possibly at a later date than previously scheduled. We are working with our panelists to find the best solution and will let you know as soon as we can. There is still time to submit essays for the Travel Stipend ! DEADLINE MARCH 25th! SLA has not yet cancelled its annual meeting and so we are still moving forward with travel stipend funding. SLA-MN Winter Mixer

Enjoy Urban Forage's wide menu of cider, mead and wine from locally sourced fruit, flowers and honey. Snacks provided by SLA-MN. The trivia theme for the evening is Disney movies from 1989-1999. UPDATED: SLA-MN Board Meeting Wednesday

The next SLA-MN Board Meeting is re-scheduled for Weds., March 13 from 6-7:30pm . They will be meeting in the community/meeting room at Peace Coffee on Minnehaha Ave in Minneapolis. All chapter members, and interested non-members, are welcome to attend. Among the usual business updates, they will discuss salons and programs/events for 2019. If you have any thoughts/ideas, or would like to host in 2019, please let Lindsey Dyer ( ldyer@jjhill.org ) know prior to the board meeting.

SLA Holiday Party and Silent Auction

SLA Conference Scholarship Requirements Lessened, Deadline Extended

Due to a lack of applicants, we have decided to extend the deadline and lessen the requirements for the $1,000 SLA Conference Scholarship. The new deadline is May 5th. The new requirements will be: A short 100-word biography detailing your involvement in SLA and/or commitment to the field of special librarianship. A 500-word essay about how attending the 2016 SLA Conference will further your career and/or education, as well as how your attendance might benefit the St. Kate’s MLIS Program. The 2016 SLA Conference will take place in Philadelphia, PA from June 12-14. The SLA is also looking for student volunteers for the conference (deadline April 29). SLA-MN Holiday Party (and SLA Silent Auction) Tomorrow

Date: Monday, December 7th Time: 5:30pm - 8:30pm Location: HGA Architects and Engineers (420 N 5th Street #100) Tomorrow is the much-anticipated SLA-MN Holiday Party and SLA Student Group silent auction. We have managed to acquire about 20-25 donations for the silent auction and are ready to put this thing into action.
