SLA-MN Annual Holiday Gathering (virtual)

  SLA-MN is hosting their annual holiday gathering on December 4, 2020, from 4-5:00pm. There will be a virtual escape room via small breakout groups! This will be a good opportunity to network with local SLA members and learn how to adapt a Google form for your own escape room with family or friends. This event is free, though registration is required .  

SLA Conference Travel Stipend 2020

Registration is open for the SLA Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina June 6-9 and current St. Kate MLIS students are invited to apply for the $1,000 Special Libraries Association Student Travel Stipend! To apply, submit a 750-1,000 word essay to Konhe Yoon ( kyoon@stkate.edu ) answering: This year's conference theme is "Drive Forward Charlotte"; how will attending the 2020 conference help you "Drive your career forward"? How are you how involved with or committed to special libraries? How would attending benefit the SLA student group, MN SLA, or the MLIS program? APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 25

Join us for a night of celebrating and connecting with fellow information professionals! This is SLA-MN's popular annual holiday event that includes excellent hors d'oeuvres, opportunities to connect with other local special librarians and information professionals, and a silent auction organized by us, the MLIS Program's SLA Student Chapter. Proceeds from the auction support a Travel Award for one MLIS student to attend the Annual National SLA Conference, to be determined by an essay contest. We are currently in the process of soliciting donations from alumni, professionals, and businesses. We will need volunteers to help set up the silent auction on the day of the event! Please let us know if you are interested in helping with the silent auction. This year the event will be held at the beautiful James J. Hill Center in downtown St. Paul. Information Professionals Panel March 19

Our Spring Information Professionals Panel is on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in CdC Room 128 (in the library). We have a great panel lined up for you: Jo Holcomb, Librarian at The Guthrie  Peter Tomlinson, Librarian at The Minneapolis Valley Library Kathy Allen, Librarian at The Andersen Horticultural Library Lindsey Dyer, Librarian at James J. Hill Center Our panelists will share about their career paths and advice for students. We will record the panel in case you can't make it. We hope to see you there!

The Information Professionals Panel is coming up on  Monday, November 28, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in CdC 19 ! Our panelists include:  Kristin Cooper, Plant Sciences Librarian, Magrath Library, University of Minnesota  Adrian Fischer, Instrument Coordinator, Bakken Museum Shannon Farrell, Natural Resources Librarian, Natural Resources Library, University of Minnesota Helen Walden-Fodge, American Swedish Institute  Janelle Beitz, Research Librarian, Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. The panelists will share their experience and offer some advice - and we'll have treats! We hope to see you all there!

SLA MN Holiday Party!

The annual SLA MN Holiday Party is fast approaching! The event is on  December 5, 2016 from 5:30 to 8:30 , at HGA Architects and Engineers, 420 5th Street North, Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN. The cost of the party is $20 for students, but SLA members have the option to sponsor students (and several donations have already been received). You will still need to register and pay $20, and depending on how many donations are received, there will be a drawing to reimburse students. This event is an excellent networking opportunity (with really good food and drinks). More details can be found here . Several people have asked about the possibility of a carpool from St. Kate's. Please send us an email if you are interested in carpooling to the party.  The SLA Student Group is responsible for putting on the Silent Auction to raise money for a St. Kate's student to attend the SLA Conference. SLA-MN Holiday Party (and SLA Silent Auction) Tomorrow

Date: Monday, December 7th Time: 5:30pm - 8:30pm Location: HGA Architects and Engineers (420 N 5th Street #100) Tomorrow is the much-anticipated SLA-MN Holiday Party and SLA Student Group silent auction. We have managed to acquire about 20-25 donations for the silent auction and are ready to put this thing into action. If you haven't yet, register for the party here and come join us for an evening of low-key mingling with information professionals in the Twin Cities (not to mention fancy food and an open bar!). MLIS Outside the Box II - April 8, 2013

Join us for a panel discussion on non-traditional ways to use your MLIS degree.  We have members from the MN-SLA chapter who will discuss what they do and how they use their MLIS skills and provide advice for students who are interested in non-traditional roles.
