Upcoming Events - Mark Your Calendars!

We had a great first SLA Student Group meeting and we're looking forward to a lot of fantastic events this fall: Ramsey County Law Library is celebrating its 80th Anniversary on September 26, 2016 !  There will be an open house, presentations, and programs. SAA has set up a poll to determine interest and availability. The tour will be held on a Tuesday evening in November. First Meeting!

It's hard to believe it's already time for another school year - we hope you've had a great summer! Our first SLA Meeting of the year will be this Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 5:15 p.m. in CdC 19 . We'll be talking about our plans for the upcoming year, including hosting information professional panels, going on a tour of a special library, and the silent auction at the SLA-MN Holiday Party. Bring your suggestions and your appetite - as the flier suggests, we'll have pizza! We're looking forward to seeing you all this Thursday!

It's been a busy semester, and we're ready to wrap it up with our last SLA meeting of the year this Thursday, December 17th at 5:00pm - 5:45pm in CdC 17. Please join us to learn about a tour of the Walker Center Library coming up in January, a recap of the SLA-MN Holiday Party last Monday, and our search for a new VP. Cheers!

Why a picture of pizza? Because that's what you'll get if you come to our first meeting on  Thursday, September 24 @ 5:15pm in CdC 17 . Whether you're ready for it or not, the 2015-2016 school year is upon us and we'll be looking for students to help us brainstorm new activities to do this semester, including: Possible tours of the Cargill and Mayo Clinic libraries. Hosting a professional from the field to come give a talk. Attending an SLA-MN meeting. The SLA-MN holiday party in December (we're in charge of the silent auction). Anything else we can think of! So come meet some fellow students and get involved in your profession. Hope to see you there! If nothing else, do it for the pizza.

Scholarship for the 2015 Annual Conference! Apply Today!

Apply for a Scholarship to Attend the 2015 SLA Annual Conference in Boston, M A The 2015 SLA Conference will be held in Boston on June 14 through 16th.  The St. Catherine University's Special Library Association Student Group is offering a $1,200 scholarship for a student to attend the conference. Essays will be judged based on the following criteria: Evidence of involvement in SLA and the St. Kate's student group. How you will use your participation to promote and improve St. Kate's MLIS program. How attending the SLA conference will impact your career and/or education. Demonstration of commitment to the field of special librarianship. How to Apply: St. Kate's MLIS students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship by submitting an essay of no more than 1,500 words. MN SLA Holiday Party & Silent Auction

Dear SLA Members, On Monday, December 8, 2014 , the St. Kate's Special Library Association Student Group will be hosting a Silent Auction fundraiser at the SLA Holiday Party to raise funds for a scholarship. This scholarship will help send a St. Kate's MLIS student to the 2015 SLA Annual Conference in Boston. We would love your help with donations! SLA Student Group Meeting

Join us for our monthly meeting. Upcoming topics include library tours and events for the semester!   Thursday, February 13th CdC 5 5:15 - 5:45 pm     We're also still looking for volunteers to represent the SLA at MLIS social hours this week. Those are held in the MLIS hallway from 5-6p tonight (Wed),   tomorrow   (Thurs), and   Friday . Please let  Lori  know if you can make it to all or part of the hour on any of those days.

Announcing 2012 SLA Conference Scholarship Winner

We are very excited to announce that Carol Lynn O'Gara is the winner of the 2012 SLA conference scholarship!!!    Carol Lynn is a very active co-leader of the St. Kate's student SLA group.   In fact she has done a great job coordinating the silent auction for the last couple of years.   She will graduate this fall so attending the conference this summer is perfect timing.    She is also active in the MN SLA chapter.   This scholarship is well-deserved after her years of service to the SLA student group.    Please join us in saying congratulations to Carol Lynn on this award and have fun in Chicago this summer.   We look forward to hearing about your experience when you return.

The St. Catherine University Master of Library and Information Science program received initial accreditation from the American Library Association.  This is wonderful news for all of us here at St. Kate’s!  See the St. Catherine University announcement .

The 2010 Grieg Aspnes Scholarship Winner

The Minnesota SLA chapter announced the 2010 winner of their annual Grieg Aspnes Scholarship.  Congratulations go to Carol Lynn O'Gara - our own student group Co-Leader!  Here is the announcement made today from the Minnesota chapter: Congratulations to Carol Lynn O'Gara, the winner of the 2010 Grieg Aspnes scholarship! Carol is planning on graduating in May of 2011 from the St. Kate’s MLIS program.  She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from the College of St. Thomas and her law degree from the University of Minnesota. Carol Lynn has served as one of the SLA Student Group co-presidents and will continue that role in the upcoming year.  She has especially enjoyed her management and technology classes at St. Kate’s, and while her interests cover many areas of special librarianship, her newest interest is law libraries. She just accepted a job at Crane Engineering as a librarian/research assistant. Carol Lynn also continues to volunteer at the Minnesota State Service for ...

Yes, you have landed at the right place. - your eyes are not playing tricks on you.  This is the St. Kate's Special Library Association Student Group blog! This new look for our blog is a preview of the new look for the Student Group Web site.  The Web site redesign is in testing and will be launched before the start of the new school year.  The blog has been redesigned to match more closely with the new Web site design and create a cohesive online presence for the Student Group. Watch here for the announcement when the Web site redesign goes live!
