Fall 2011 Upcoming Events

September 22, 2011 Student chapter meeting in CDC room 17 5:00 pm.   MN SLA Chapter president will be joining us to explain the benefits of joining the chapter.  We also would like to talk about future topics and speakers to bring into future meetings.    October 20, 2011 Student chapter meeting in CDC room 17 5:00 pm.  Join us as we start planning our biggest fundraiser of the year - a silent auction to be held at the Holiday party!  The money we raise at the silent auction will be used to send one of our students to the annual SLA conference in Chicago(July 2012).    November 17, 2011 Student chapter meeting in CDC room 17 5:00 pm.  Final preparations for the silent auction December 15, 2011 Student chapter meeting in CDC room 17 5:00 pm. Join us as we celebrate the end of the semester! We are also working on a library tour. 

MLIS Outside the Box

Please join us for a panel discussion on non-traditional ways to use your MLIS degree.  We have several members from our chapter who will discuss what they do and how they use their MLIS skills and provide advice for students who are interested in non-traditional roles. SLA President Talk with SGO Professional Development Funds

Good news!  Were you planning on attending the "Future Ready" event with Cindy Romaine, 2011 SLA President, on Monday, April 4 ?  Well, the $15 student fee for her formal presentation qualifies for professional development funding from the St. Kate's SGO.  And it is easy to apply! Meet the 2011 SLA President!

In all of our MLIS classes we envision the library and information profession of the future. Here at St. Kate’s we will have a special opportunity to meet and have a discussion with the 2011 SLA President Cindy Romaine . Cindy’s platform for 2011 is “ Future Ready .” This year SLA members are discussing what it means to be Future Ready in the blog Future Ready 365 . Every day since the beginning of the year someone has posted their idea of Future Ready. What is yours? On the evening of April 4 Cindy Romaine will be presenting and leading a discussion here at St. Catherine’s. Before the formal presentation, Cindy would like to talk with students and faculty to hear what Future Ready means to you and how the MLIS education fits into your view. Please join us for the student discussion from 5 - 5:30 p.m . and then stay for the formal presentation and discussion beginning at 5:30 p.m . Apply for the SLA Conference Scholarship

This year the student group is able to offer a $1,700 scholarship for a St. Kate's MLIS student to attend the SLA Annual Conference.  The 2011 conference will be held in  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 12 - 15 . To apply: Submit an essay of 1,500 words. Be a first-time conference attendee. Be a St. Kate's MLIS student and a SLA member (student membership fee is $40). Application deadline is March 14, 2011 See the scholarship page on the student group's Web site for full information about the scholarship, criteria for the essay, and where to submit your application. Congratulations St. Kate's MLIS!!
