Film Librarians Conference 2019: Call for Proposals and Travel Grant Applications

Deadline: January 4, 2019
The 2019 Film Librarians Conference will build on the discussions and dialogues begun in 2017, providing a continuing forum to explore contemporary debates and exchange ideas and strategies amongst librarians, curators, and archivists who maintain and administer paper-based, motion picture-related collections, as well as students enrolled in related graduate programs.

Call for Proposals
The conference committee is now welcoming papers and in particular pre-formed panel proposals on the following themes:
·       Workflows and bottlenecks

·       Taxonomies and cataloging issues

·       Preservation of material objects and digital media

·       Staffing issues, including training, education, and professional development

·       Training, education, and learning

·       Cooperative partnerships for digitization and archiving

·       Managing change in the digital age

·       Models for digital archiving and long-term preservation

·       Managing privacy rights for digital information

·       Migration of digital content

·       Storage solutions, for analog and digital objects

·       Turning archives into assets

·       Managing databases and large data sets

·       Gifts, donations, and collection development

·       Issues in acquisitions, digital and analog
Proposals of 400 words for papers, panels, or workshops must be uploaded to our Call for Proposals page no later than January 4, 2019. Please note that conference proceedings will be photographically documented and recorded. Proposal submission assumes your permission to be documented.
Travel Grants
Up to eight travel grants will be awarded to cover registration and reimbursement for the cost of travel from the awardee’s place of residence to Los Angeles to attend the conference. Applicants from both the US and abroad must complete an online application available at the Travel Grants page by January 4, 2019.

The James J. Hill Center has an immediate opening for a motivated and self-directed Business Research Specialist to join their team on a part-time, temporary basis. The Business Research Specialist will spend the majority of their time assisting walk-in and scheduled visitors in the Reading Room at the Hill Center, which is open to the public. This is a 20-hour per week, 6 month position. This position reports to the Director of Library & Education.

UPDATED: Don't miss the annual SLA-MN Holiday Party!

Join us for a night of celebrating and connecting with fellow information professionals!

This is SLA-MN's popular annual holiday event that includes excellent hors d'oeuvres, opportunities to connect with other local special librarians and information professionals, and a silent auction organized by us, the MLIS Program's SLA Student Chapter. Proceeds from the auction support a Travel Award for one MLIS student to attend the Annual National SLA Conference, to be determined by an essay contest.

We are currently in the process of soliciting donations from alumni, professionals, and businesses. We will need volunteers to help set up the silent auction on the day of the event! Please let us know if you are interested in helping with the silent auction.

This year the event will be held at the beautiful James J. Hill Center in downtown St. Paul. Whether it's to support SLA, network, or enjoy the amazing setting, we hope to see you there!

2018 SLA Conference Travel Stipend Winner

Congratulations to Maggie Parra!

The SLA-MN Award Committee selected Maggie to receive the 2018 SLA Conference Stipend Award to attend the SLA annual conference in Baltimore this June.

The SLA-MN Conference Travel Award is a $1,000 stipend to assist in funding airfare, hotel and conference registration. In 2008, SLA-MN established this award for a current St. Catherine University MLIS student who demonstrates a commitment to the field of special librarianship.

Maggie will receive recognition of her award from Eddy Morrow, SLA-MN's President in May.

Please join us in congratulating Maggie! We can't wait to hear all about SLA 2018!

2018 SLA Conference Travel Stipend

Hey SLA! It's time - we're now accepting applications for the 2018 SLA Conference Travel Stipend! If you're interested in going to the 2018 SLA Conference in Baltimore, Maryland (and we hope you are!), you should apply for the $1,000 stipend to help pay for your airfare, hotel, and conference registration.

The contest is open to all St. Kate's students. To apply, send a 3-5 page essay covering your involvement with SLA and/or commitment to special librarianship; how attending the conference will further your career or education; and how your attendance benefits St. Kate's to Konhe Yoon ( by March 15, 2018. The winner will be announced by early April.
